Yellow Sign

The Yellow Sign is an ominous emblem in Robert W. Chambers’s fiction. Its best-known physical appearance is a gold design inlaid in a black onyx clasp that Tessie Reardon gives to the painter Mr. Scott. In another story it marks Hildred Castaigne’s imagined imperial conspiracy. Chambers supplies these uses without drawing a definitive symbol or setting out a universal rule for its effects.
