Yekub is the distant world reached by George Campbell’s displaced consciousness in The Challenge from Beyond. Its wormlike inhabitants explore other galaxies through devices that exchange minds across space. Campbell arrives as a captive but acquires a native body, seizes the planet’s spherical deity and becomes its ruler. The world’s scientific imperialism, sacred prohibitions and unexpectedly benevolent ending belong to different stages of a five-author collaboration.
