Racism and critical reception

Racism and xenophobia are explicit elements of Lovecraft’s writing and important subjects in its reception. They appear in descriptions of people, assumptions about ancestry, stories of urban change and decisions about who receives sympathy or narrative authority. Later writers and readers have responded through criticism, reinterpretation and debate over public commemoration.
