Of Old Gods and Elder Things is the first full-length release from UNSPEAKABLE TALES—a music project dedicated to bringing the worlds of H.P. Lovecraft and the Cthulhu Mythos to life through dark, atmospheric metal.

Rather than simply retelling classic stories, the album explores their atmosphere, emotions and underlying themes. Each composition is inspired by a different corner of Lovecraft’s universe, allowing listeners to journey through forgotten civilizations, impossible landscapes and encounters with beings whose existence stretches far beyond human history.

Throughout the album you’ll encounter the frozen realm of Ithaqua, the ancient forests of Shub-Niggurath, the drowned city of R’lyeh where Cthulhu still dreams beneath the Pacific, the maddening influence of Hastur and the Yellow Sign, the limitless presence of Yog-Sothoth, the oceanic cults devoted to Dagon, the lost civilization of the Elder Things, and the countless manifestations of Nyarlathotep, the Crawling Chaos.

Musically, Of Old Gods and Elder Things combines dark metal with cinematic arrangements, ritual percussion, haunting choirs and atmospheric orchestration. Some tracks embrace relentless aggression, while others build slow-burning tension, melancholy and cosmic dread. Every musical decision serves the narrative, creating an album that is as immersive as it is heavy.

The lyrics draw inspiration from the writings of H.P. Lovecraft alongside the expanded Mythos created by authors including August Derleth, Clark Ashton Smith and Robert E. Howard. Rather than focusing on heroes, these songs tell stories through the eyes of scholars, sailors, explorers, cultists and ordinary people whose encounters with the unknown forever change their understanding of reality.

UNSPEAKABLE TALES celebrates the enduring legacy of cosmic horror through original music, visual storytelling and artwork. At its core, the project remains faithful to the ideas that define Lovecraft’s fiction: forbidden knowledge, humanity’s insignificance within the cosmos, ancient civilizations lost to time and the terrifying realization that some truths are better left undiscovered.

Whether you are a longtime reader of Lovecraft, a fan of the Cthulhu Mythos, or simply searching for atmospheric dark metal with a strong narrative foundation, Of Old Gods and Elder Things invites you into a world where forgotten gods still dream, impossible cities lie beneath black oceans, and every discovery comes at a terrible price.
