The Outsider

The Outsider follows an isolated narrator who escapes a decaying castle in search of light and human company, only to discover why the people he approaches flee in terror. Written in 1921 and first published in the April 1926 Weird Tales, it makes the apparent monster the voice through which the reader experiences longing, fear and recognition.
