The Last Test

The Last Test follows a celebrated physician whose apparently principled struggle against political interference conceals experiments on unwilling human subjects. A prison outbreak, a damaged romance and an ancient adviser gradually converge on the truth about Dr. Alfred Schuyler Clarendon. Lovecraft revised a story by Adolphe de Castro; the resulting narrative combines medical melodrama with an extraterrestrial disease and references to forbidden traditions.
